I agree with everyone else, do not activate the new card. Call Customer Service and have the transfer initated. You will be able to retain both your existing cell number and balance from the old sim.

I managed to get it working. I reset the network settings under Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. It seemed to start accessing the cell data network after I did this.
